Canvas was down :(

SOTD: Siouxsie and the Banshees - "Spellbound"

Canvas was down from 12 AM to about 4 PM in my area, so I couldn't really do a whole lot. I finished up writing my stories for my creative writing workshop (2 works of creative nonfiction (that totaled 5 pages, double-spaced), as well as a 1 page letter that details any necessary background, specific things I'm proud of, and any critiques I'd particularly enjoy). The workshop group has 4 total people, including myself, but I'm only expecting 1 response for my submission since I rarely ever see the 2 other people on discussion boards ever (this is an online class).

Also, my German professor cancelled class at 6 AM (and due to Canvas being down, we didn't get the message) but the college had also not put up a "class cancelled" sign. Everyone waited for about 20 minutes before leaving, but I imagine some folks in my class had waited the entire time. I almost skipped my classes today, and it turns out I wouldn't have missed anything in the first place.

After I left, I Joined the folks I went ice skating with the other day to mess around until their next class (and I went home afterward).

I finally listened to Taylor Swift's new album, The Life of a Showgirl, and I have mixed feelings. The only track I really want to listen to is "The Fate of Ophelia," because it's genuinely catchy. They're all catchy to an extent, but this one in particular. Swift knows how to write a hook. But it seems to me that she's completely misunderstood Hamlet (and specifically the character of Ophelia). At first, I thought Lana Del Rey was a surprise feature on this song because of the vocals, the breathiness, and the cadence that is so reminiscent of early Del Rey, but it was just Swift. It made me want to listen to Del Rey's earlier work, so I just listened to Born To Die and the Paradise EP (as well as Lana Del Rey/AKA Lizzy Grant (unreleased(?) album)).

I'm also not quite a fan of the album cover. I don't really like the colors, and I think Swift just looks so awkward when she's trying to be sexy. She's also just... not a showgirl. I also think this album is over-hated. I'm sure Swift has produced much better songs with much better lyricism (given her audience), but these songs are still largely catchy.

That said, I, maybe, have developed a Taylor Swift hyperfixation. I ended up going to her debut (which I'd already downloaded to my laptop, because I simply do not want to give her money), and listened to the first episode of "Evolution of a Snake" (podcast), and flipped through the Swiftopedia... but we'll see where this leads me.

I lit a new candle ("pink pumpkin" scented... I'm going to assume it's just normal "pumpkin spice")! I just want the container. It smells alright.
